Mixology 101: How to Make Grapefruit Simple Syrup

Grapefruit Simple Syrup This week we've got a few Paloma recipes, one of which we created with grapefruit simple syrup. This syrup recipe is also great for a variety of mocktails and for sprucing up some plain sparkling water when you're in the mood for something light.

You can remove the peel before cooking, though I find it easier to just chop up the fruit and plop it in the pan. I also love the flavoring that the rind adds.

Directions Step One: Slice up a large organic grapefruit. Step Two: Put it in a sauce pan along with a cup of water, and ¾ -1 cup of sugar. Step Three: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and let it cook another 15 - 30 minutes. Step Four: Strain the grapefruit simple syrup into a glass or measuring pitcher and let it cool. Step Five: Refrigerate for up to a week.
