We loved our Barbies growing up and are beyond excited for the upcoming Barbie® Movie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. In the spirit of the film we’ve created six cocktails based on six of our favorite Barbie Dolls growing up. Our parents gave us the dolls as gifts for several Christmases but stopped short of going Barbie crazy. We never got the Barbie car, pool, or house (we had to build our own dream house from supplies we purchases with allowance at the hardware store), but we still spent countless house building glamorous, imaginary worlds.

Golden Dream Barbie

Golden Dream Barbie was one of our favorite Barbies because of the gold wires weaved into her hair that would form into curls with the help of the small plastic “curling” iron. We can still remember the texture of her golden pants suit, and the crinkle sounds they made when you dressed her. This cocktail is one we created during the pandemic that we also call Golden West Cocktail, and pairs well with vodka and bourbon too.

Golden Dream Barbie Cocktail
2 ounces tequila (blanco or reposado)
3 ounces pineapple juice
2 teaspoons organic agave
1/2 ounce lemon juice
1/4 ounce ground cinnamon

Directions
Combine the tequila, pineapple juice, agave, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well then transfer into a double old fashioned. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a dusting of ground cinnamon.

We were absolutely obsessed with Malibu Barbie’s tan lines, which is odd considering that we lived in San Diego and sported tans lines (albeit socks and shorts) 365 days a year. Little did we know we’d start a company in Los Angeles one day and get to see the magic of Malibu on a regular basis.

Malibu Barbie Cocktail
2 ounces Malibu Rum
1 ounce This Girl Walks Into a Bar’s Margarita Mix
1 ounce triple sec
1 ounce pineapple juice
2 ounces guava nectar
Splash grenadine
White sugar rim

Directions
Rim a double old fashioned glass with simple syrup, honey, or agave and dip in sugar and set aside (preferably in the fridge to firm up). Combine the rum, This Girl’s Margarita Mix, triple sec, pineapple juice, guava nectar, and grenadine in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well then transfer into a double old fashioned that’s filled with ice. Garnish with a pineapple slice and cherry.

For our fitness Barbie, we created your basic vodka soda with an addition of blue Gatorade for better hydration. We have a feeling that she probably sticks to water but even those in the greatest shape need to let down their ponytail once in a while. And can we please just talk about her leg warmers.

Great Shape Barbie
1.5 ounces vodka
2 ounces blue Gatorade®
2 ounces club soda

Directions
Fill a rocks glass with ice. Add the vodka, then the Gatorade®, and top with club soda. Garnish with a lime wheel and serve.

Up until India Barbie, all of our Barbies had blonde or golden hair. Indian Barbie’s extra long black hair and gold-threaded dress was the most amazing Barbie hair experience we had ever had. The tamarind martini recipe has been perfected over time at the various Indian weddings we’ve bartended for, and only needed a Barbie twist.

India Barbie Cocktail
3 ounces Vodka
1 ounce Tamarind Simple Syrup
½ ounce lime juice
Tajin rim

Directions
Combine the ingredients in a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass.

The Loving Your Barbie came with a dress that definitely represented a princess dress, prom dress, and wedding dress all rolled into one. The puffy sleeves, sweetheart neck line, and tiny velvet hearts was the ultimate design in our minds and a dress we hoped to own in real life one day.

Loving You Barbie
2 ounces vodka
2 ounces Sprite or 7Up
2 ounce cranberry juice
3 strawberries for muddling
Sliced strawberry garnishes

Directions
Muddle the strawberries in the vodka and strain into a martini glass filled with ice. Add the cranberry juice and shake well. Build a highball glass with ice and sliced strawberries. Add the vodka mixture and fill with soda. Garnish with additional strawberries.

We’re pretty sure the boa was lost almost immediately because there aren’t many memories around that little accessory, but the dress was always way to find inside the wooden box of Barbie clothes since it never lost its shape. Most amazing though were her little glitter shoes that we decided were really Cinderella’s.

Crystal Barbie
3 ounces vodka
½ ounce Crème de Violet
3 ounces white cranberry peach juice
½ ounce lemon juice
Lavender garnish

Directions
Combine the ingredients in a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lavender.
