This Girl Travel: The Sarasota Modern
We travel to Sarasota, Florida frequently and have now stayed in at least half of the hotels there. The Sarasota Modern is by far one of our favorite places for lodging. The location is a six-minute walk from the heart of downtown Sarasota, the prices are extremely low for what you get (hoping they stay this way!), and the rooms are so big and spacious you feel like you’re in a five-star hotel. We cannot recommend this hotel enough and would love to know if you love it too!
The Lobby
The lobby is definitely an ode to the 70s but with a real 1970s Travel Lodge vibe. But don’t confuse the simplicity with a lack of comfort. You’ll wait for your Uber or your room there but that’s about it.
The Rooms
We cannot get over the spaciousness of the rooms. We’ve stayed in two different floorpans so far - one with a suite and one without. However, even the single room layout was incredibly large. We’ve got an upcoming stay this fall and will update this post with more photos if we’ve got a different view to share.
The bathrooms are huge and for our suite there was even a bathtub on THE BALCONY! Totally private and lovely for a hot summer day when you want to be outside but in a cold body of water.
The suite also had a lovely bar set-up with glasses, mixology tools, and a fridge.
The Restaurant & Bar
Yes, the decor will pull you in for a cocktail as soon as you step foot inside to look, but it’s worth the detour. The bartenders we met were so friendly and made the best drinks. Sometimes the restaurant was quiet enough during the day to get some lap top work done at my table while eating lunch, but come happy hour the place takes on a really fun vibe.
The Pool
This is the only hotel in Sarasota that we’ve come across with a cold plunge!! And if you’ve ever been in Florida between the months of May and September, a cold plunge could be the most welcome amenity ever. They also have a pool that’s long enough for laps and a spa large enough to have a private conversation without someone sitting right next to you. They also have a lovely bar at outside that you can choose to dine at or have them bring the food over to your chairs. Still need to order one of the shirts we saw the bartending wearing: “I NEED A HUGe margarita”
The Gym
If you travel a lot you’re grateful for the bare minimum or equipment - a bike or a tread. But when the gym has not one but TWO Pelotons?! you’ve hit the gym lottery. One note is that that bikes have not been calibrated in a while so you’ll probably blow any previous PRs right out the window. ;)
