Mixology 101: The Classic Negroni Cocktail Recipe

Not too many years ago, a Negroni was a cocktail your grandfather drank and after taking one sip you were quite happy to keep it that way. But the Negroni is back in a big way and one drink that every bartender worth her salt knows how to make. If you find yourself sitting in front a bartender who's stumped by the request, you can now walk her through the steps. Just remember to choose a premium gin. Classic Negroni

Classic Negroni Recipe* 1.25 ounces gin ¾ ounce Campari ½ ounce sweet vermouth 3-4 dashes bitters (I used orange) 1 large orange peel

Directions: Combine the ingredients over ice and mix well.

*I love the taste of Campari about as much as I love the taste of echinacea. Whenever a recipe calls for it, I use as little as possible for the recipe to still be complete. Although this is a classic Negroni recipe, I prefer to increase the gin, sweet vermouth, and bitters, and lower the amount of Campari to 1 tablespoon.

Make Monday Happy Hour cocktails are classic drinks that can be made at any bar, any where, any time. No craft-cocktail shaking, muddling, mashing, straining, twirling, or igniting needed.
